In addition to programs, workshops, sales room shopping and raffle ticket prize awarding, the last day of the convention on Saturday was a time of fellowship and reminiscing for

conventioneers. The convention wrapped up with the “Urban Graffiti” dinner, including competition awards, convention leaders’ recognition and presentation of the coveted convention-designed Barbie® by Mattel designer, Robert Best. We all received this exquisite Silkstone® creation. I saw it on eBay last night… apparently, someone needing to cash in quickly. However, the majority of conventioneers I talked to were excited by the gift and stood in long lines to get it signed by Robert, as did I.
Great news for the charities, benefactors from the silent and live auctions – over $70,000 will benefit these charities!
My first convention ever. Five days of meeting people from around the world, learning about their passion for collecting Barbie® and educating myself on what is authentic, fair-priced and in-demand. More importantly, and as is typical of my adventures, the people I met and new friendships forged were the priceless treasures of this convention. Listening to life stories of doll collecting, sharing the excitement with other first-time conventioneers and exchanging email addresses for future contact made the convention experience fulfilling.
If I painted a mural of the experience, it would be of vibrant colors and flowing shapes, representing diversity, passion and a kindred connection among the conventioneers. Even the Mattel, Hallmark and Hard Rock Café teams, who sponsored and attended, became one in the spirit of Barbie® with their enthusiasm and relationship with the conventioneers.
As I leave today, and observe the Hyatt staff recover from everything Barbie®, I have a feeling they’ll miss her, and perhaps, us.

Great overview of the convention, Gerri! I know you’ll enjoy all the new friends you made! Have a good flight back home.
