Conventioneers flocked to the competition room for its limited open hours to view three categories of competition – Mattel history and rarities, mix & match and creative. Security was tight and a very organized limited entry to the room was managed by friendly volunteers.
Here’s a quick summary of the competition categories:
Mattel History and Rarities–Vintage and Mod Dolls, Outfits, & Accessories
Vintage dolls 1959-1966, Mint in Box, or Never Removed From Box; Mod dolls 1967-1975, Never Removed From Box, including 1966 Francie®; 1959-1989 Out of Box Dolls in Mattel manufactured outfits; 1961-1979 Foreign issued dolls – Mattel “foreign exclusive”; all Licensed products.
Mix & Match
Vintage dolls in mod era outfits, do’s and don’ts of fashion and Barbie® and Ken® as a duo.

Creative
Original outfits, dioramas, photography, paper dolls and artwork.
All of the entries were great. The dioramas are my favorite because of the level of detail and set up to tell a story.
Congratulations to all of the ribbon winners, and to everyone for your passion and effort in competing!
