In addition to the official sales room that is part of the convention schedule, several individuals and dealers operate for a short time out of their own hotel rooms. I found these room sales on seven floors of the hotel with a variety of vintage (1959-1962) and modern dolls, clothes, homemade items and jewelry. One seller must be a smoker… vintage tobacco was the room aroma. She had an oxygen concentrator running with the plastic tubing strung across the room. Sorry, dear, it’s not working!
Some of the rooms had simple signs. Others used lights and shelving and elaborate displays to lure conventioneers in. Prices varied from $5 to $5000.
It was certainly a walk down memory lane, seeing the dolls, outfits and original packaging I remember. Many of these folks have been collecting for decades. Garage sales, estate sales and from each other.
These room sales end tonight. I can only imagine how grateful the hotel cleaning staff will be!
